Vegetation Offsets
Earthtrade, as the leading environmental offsets broker in Queensland is experienced in the delivery of vegetation offsets to meet legislative requirements under the Vegetation Management Act (1999), on behalf of developers/ clients.
What is a vegetation offset?
The policy for Vegetation Offsets (under the Vegetation Management Act 1999) sets the requirements for an offset as a condition of a development approval. Earthtrade assists developers/clients to meet this requirement by sourcing and securing land that meets this development approval condition.
An offset can only be used when all efforts have been made to avoid, minimise and/or mitigate potential environmental impacts of a development. A vegetation management offset is a legal arrangement that, over time, guarantees to maintain the extent, structure, function of:
- Regional ecosystems and essential habitat
- Vegetation associated with watercourses, natural wetlands and natural significant wetlands
Earthtrade offers a 12-step Offsets service to fulfil a client's offset requirements including the provision of contract and offset templates, lodging the submission and assisting the process through government approval and lodging of covenants.
Results to date include:
- delivered the two largest offset obligations in the State
- one offset delivered in 6 months that had been outstanding for 4 years
- secured 523ha with a legally binding mechanism on title
