This annual event is back for 2012 and will be held in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, providing attendees with Herron Todd White’s comprehensive update of the year in review and the future outlook of the national rural market.

This year’s keynote address is “Biodiversity and Carbon Offsets, the Opportunities and Implications and will be presented by Mr Alan Key, Managing Director, Earthtrade. Queensland Government releases new Biodiversity Offsets Policy

The Queensland Government has released the Queensland Biodiversity Offset Policy.

The policy is a specific-issue offsets policy under the Queensland Government Environmental Offsets Policy and is administered by the Department of Environment and Resource Management.

The purpose of this policy is to increase the long-term protection and viability of the state’s biodiversity, by limiting residual impacts from development on areas possessing State significant biodiversity values.

State significant biodiversity values are listed in Appendix 1 of the policy.

Under the Biodiversity Offset Policy, there will be certain development activities that might trigger the requirement for a biodiversity offset.

The policy commences on 3 October 2011.

Independent property advisory group Herron Todd White has acquired leading environmental broker Earthtrade, enhancing its services to clients who include landholders, resources companies, infrastructure projects and land developers.

Herron Todd White who specialise in property consultation and valuation requirements across a broad portfolio base, explains that offsets are used to maintain an ecosystem affected by infrastructure and/or property development activities. The company said that offsets can only be used when all other efforts to avoid or minimise environmental impacts have been exhausted. The acquisition will enable Herron Todd White to assist clients navigate through their requirements in purchasing environmental offsets under diverse and complex legislation…..

Qld Legislation Update

Earthtrade, in association with Holding Redlich Lawyers, released an update on the recent enactment by Queensland Parliament of the Environmental Protection and Other Acts Amendment Act 2011.

The Act is intended to strengthen the Qld Government Environmental Offsets Policy and support the existing practice of imposing environmental offsets upon development approvals.
